How do you want to feel?

Sunday 10th March 2019
I want it all and I'd like it delivered. Bette Midler
Well it's raining very, very heavily so I'm thinking our Sunday morning walk is not going to happen, as my brother once said on a camping trip in snowy Wales at Easter "we're not marines, we don't have to stay". I've been awake since 4am and it was the noise of the rain that woke me and it was heavy, it hasn't stopped since!  I can handle a bit of walking in the rain but I don't wanna get drowned!

I've been thinking about this recipe all week, if I can get fresh mint I might make it today, if not, I'll put it on the to eat list for my supermarket shop this week, I managed to go all last week without doing an online shop, that saved a few quid.

Mini pea and mint frittatas - Makes 24, 0SP each

Calorie controlled cooking spray
6 eggs
50ml skimmed milk (1SP)
90g frozen peas
2 shallots, finely chopped
50g reduced-fat natural cottage cheese (1SP)
2 tbsp chopped fresh mint, plus extra to serve.

Preheat the oven to 200oC, fan 180oC, gas mark 6.  Mist two 12 hole mini muffin tins with cooking spray.

In a large jug, beat together the eggs and mik, then season.  Put the peas in a heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water.  Leave for 1 minute, then drain and refresh under cold running water and drain well.

Add the peas to the egg mixture, along with the shallots, cottage cheese and mint.  Stir to combine, then divide the mixture between the muffin holes and bake for 12 minutes or until just set. Serve warm, sprinkled with the extra chopped mint.

This week in workshops we've talked about goals, I put a slightly different take on them though as a lot of my members find goals more pressure than pleasure, so instead of focusing on numbers, dress sizes or the like, I suggested we focus on feeling goals, what we desire to feel rather than focus on looks.

In January I felt dreadful, I started the year feeling poorly and like everyone else who'd over-indulged at Christmas lethargic, uncomfortable and yak. I instantly started eating healthily and drinking more water. The outcome goal here was of course seen as 'I want to lose weight' even I saw it as that. However the goal was I want to feel healthy, full of energy, comfortable and of course happy. Fast forward a couple of weeks and yeah I'd lost a few pounds but it wasn't the weight loss that was making me feel good, it was the fact I was eating well, moving a little more, occupying my brain with interesting things, making time to socialise and do things for myself.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I've been 9 stone and miserable and 9 stone and happy, I've been 13 stone and miserable and 13 stone and happy. It isn't the weight that creates those feelings, it's my behaviour and beliefs.

So going forward I'm going to focus my goals on feelings not scales. Don't get me wrong, there's a very good possibility weight loss will be an added side effect but it won't be the be all and end all.  Yes I still would like to lose weight!  However....

HOW I FEEL WILL BE WHERE MY FOCUS GOES.

So, what about you? What are your desired feelings?

Do you wanna feel good
Do you want to feel energised
Happy, confident, full of life,
Would you like to feel joy, content, feel loved?

What can you do to start to feel that way?

Ask yourself when you wake up every morning, “What am I going to do today to generate these feelings that are so important to me?”

It could be,
I'm going to go for a half hour walk to fill my lungs with fresh air
I'm going to meet up with some friends and have a giggle
I'm going to cook a delicious meal that not only tastes amazing but makes me feel good because its nutritious and doing me good.
I'm going to read my book for half hour and take some time for me.
I'm going to sign up for a new yoga class.

Ask yourself
“What do I need to do right now to have these feelings?”

Remember you are worth it.

Remind yourself YOU have a say in your life.

You have the power to make choices, you might not be able to control everything in your life but you can control how you react to any given situation.  You decide what goes into your kitchen cupboards, you decide what goes into your body, the people you spend your free time with , the thoughts you focus on - it's all in your power.

Take control of your choices, chose to do things that will help you get those feelings you want.

You may not be able to chose what happens to you but you can always choose how you respond.

EVERY GOAL WE SET is underlined by a feeling we long for. When we focus on those feelings, the things we need to do in order to achieve the goals make more sense and therefore we're more likely to do them.

YOU ARE NOT CHASING THE GOAL ITSELF – YOU'RE CHASING THE FEELINGS THAT YOU HOPE ATTAINING THOSE GOALS WILL GIVE YOU.

Who knows when you get clear on how you want to feel, you might find yourself going after different things, in a completely different way.

When you get clear on how you want to feel, the pursuit itself becomes more satisfying.

You can finally enjoy the journey.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF WANTING

Outcome (e.g. I want to lose a stone) or Behaviour Goals (e.g. I'll drink more water) are set by the mind, whereas feeling goals are set by our heart.

I realised I want to FEEL FREE, I obviously can't be FREE all the time as I have my mom to take care of, but I can go for a long walk on a Sunday morning, reach the top of a big hill and for that time I feel as FREE as you can be.  Although maybe not in the rain!

This week, make your goal to start creating a life that feels good on the inside, not one that just looks good on the outside.

Think about those feelings you want, ask yourself why do you want what you want? Then decide on your behavioural goal for this week that'll help you get closer to achieving them
What I’ll do:
When I’ll do it:
Where I’ll be:
Who (if anyone) I’ll be with:

When we make feeling good a priority everything changes.

Have a wonderful day,

Stay BeYOUtiful
