Nom Nom Nom

5th August 2011

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Carl Bard

I’m off to Cadbury World today so I’m not holding out much hope for weigh day ;D I love being me, especially at the moment, I’m surrounded by amazing people one of which text me at 7.15am yesterday morning and offered to help out in my meeting because she knew I was stuck, I was so pleased because I knew we were gonna struggle to manage, people are so nice.  It’s really important to have good people in your life and friends, heck I’ve got 5 new friends I’m going to see the chocolate place with today, ok they’re all under 14 but they really are lots of fun if you let yourself join in!

We all need friends, and there are five friends that everyone should have and if you’re lucky, you can find these traits all in one person, but for most of us, the kind of person that uplifts and enriches your life will come in a parade of different people throughout your life. No matter what form they come in, here are the five friends you need to know:

The Counsellor - everyone needs a good listener. This is the friend you can go to with a bad day or a great triumph. They can help you sort out a complicated problem or just sit and listen to you vent.

The Cheerleader - every friend you have should be this kind of person to some extent. We all need someone who will be in our corner and encourage us when times get rough. “The Cheerleader” is there to let you know, whatever you’re going through, you can make it!

The “Tough Love” Coach - There are friends who will coddle and hug you, but then there’s that brutally honest friend who will tell you like it is.

The Inspiring One - It’s good to be around people who are better than you at certain things.  If you want to worry less, be friends with people who are chilled out. Just being in their presence will relax you.

The “Do-Nothing” Friend - You can find people who will go to a concert or out to dinner, but it’s a special breed of friend who will do nothing with you. This is the one you call just to come over and hang out. You don’t need entertainment; just each other’s company is enough.

What about being a better friend yourself?  Here’s a few tips;

Don’t be jealous. Or if you are, just admit it and get over it. Jealousy has a way of turning into bitterness which develops into a quiet resentment. It’s a slippery slop that can ruin your relationship if not caught and quarantined. I watch members who are mates get funny with each other if ones losing more weight, it’s not worth it.

Talk. Be a good communicator. It doesn’t matter if you’re making dinner plans or being honest about hurt feelings. Good friends talk to each other and share their hearts.

Listen. Stop if it feels like you’re talking too much about yourself. Ask them about their day. Celebrate with them when things are going well. When things are rough, be there for them and stay there until the tears have dried. Give space if asked for it. Simply put, listen to your friend.

Help. Friends help friends. Whether it’s moving or baby-sitting, a good friend will lighten your load and you should do the same.

Remember you can make a new friend but not an old friend, so make new friends but keep the old, one is silver the others are gold. Xx

I’m off to play – YAY!
