A wonderful weekend had.

Tuesday 21st May 2024

I had a lovely weekend, some us time much enjoyed, the last time we had a night away together alone was Feb 23 when we went to the Maldives, so yes it was very, much enjoyed.

We ate out, fish and chips for me by the seaside, would've liked them in a bag but at a table in a Greene King pub on the front was good enough.  We were in the quiet end of Bournemouth, Boscombe & Southbourne overcliff, absolutely lovely beach and walks.  Sunday we had a drive round, ended up at Sandbanks for breakfast, was dissapointed we were 5 minutes too late for breakfast at Rick Steins so ended up in the place next door The Tandy which was equally as posh they thought, our food was good but our poached eggs weren't runny - that's the sign of a poor chef in my opinion!

Our dinner at The Hunters Inn in Romsey was amazing!  I've not eaten a Sunday Roast that tasty in a good while, everything on the plate was so good, I couldn't decide what to eat first.  Delicious.

We didn't just eat all weekend, we had a lovely walk around Hengistbury head which if we were to go again, I'd like to spend more time exploring, we also walked along the beach a few times.  My back and knee held up and I loved every minute of the time I was away, worth the 3 hour drive each way!

My brake pads had to be replaced on the car yesterday though, they started making a noise whilst away so that's sorted, then it's gonna be serviced tomorrow, it's all money ain't it!  You can't take it with you I guess but it would be nice to earn it before having to spend it lol.

Looking forward to this week huddles, we're talking good mood food, I've really enjoyed all the topics over the last few weeks, very much food based and explaining how what we eat affects our bodies.

Back to normal with a bang though, 3 lots of washing done and being a taxi to Aryn, house was still in one piece, tidy and he'd even backed a cake!

I need to jump in the shower, so I'll say have a great day,

Mwah, luv ya

I lost a pound - must be doing something right!

Friday 17th May 2024

Yep I managed a loss, I'll take that, now to keep going with the healthy, yesterday went went regarding eating good food.  I nipped into Sainsbury's between our morning huddle to get a meal deal because I knew I wouldn't be home for hours.  I choose smoked salmon and cream cheese on oatmeal bread sandwich, carrot and houmous as the side and a smoothie for the drink, that was 593 calories in total but it was both my breakfast and lunch as I didn't eat again till dinner which was YoSushi, from the too good to go app, £15 worth of food for a fiver, I like sushi and Aryn had asked about doing Japanese only the day before so this was a cheap way of doing it!  It was high in calories at 1,102 but I couldn't eat all I had on my plate, there was easily enough food for 3 people in the two bags we had for a tenner, it even had a dessert thing which Aryn ate.

It was a busy day with 3 huddles, picking up my glasses from the opticians, fetching the sushi from Tesco, I wasn't in the house much until I got home at half six!  I completely forgot to go for a walk but I still managed 8,430 steps, I'm going to go do my walk as soon as I've finished this blog so I don't forget today!  Not sure how far I'll walk, I'll see how my body holds up, build up steady, if need be, I'll do a walk this morning and one later one, but I'd like to do at least half hour building up to an hour.

My knee is the only thing that's making it difficult now, which is great because my backs holding up really well!  Another reason to get back to losing weight as it'll take some pressure off that knee, I must remember this when I'm tempted!

I've been looking into inflammation a little and I've just listened to a video on YouTube whilst I was doing my physio and that talks about what foods to cut down on and what to add in, so I'm going to see if that helps.  Fish and omega 3 is good, vitamin C,  nuts and olive oil are good but cut down on food with added sugar, red meats, pastries and other things with saturated fats in.

I've been adding in more fish this week, I enjoy it too, in future when he wants his bacon sandwich or cooked breakfast on a weekend, I'll have smoked mackerel, smoked salmon or tinned fish on toast, I like it, so it's not like it's a hardship!

It'll be interesting to see if it makes a difference over time, I love walking and if that doesn't motivate me to try and do this, not much will!

Right I've started the day in a positive way, scrambled eggs with a piece of slice of multiseed wholemeal farmhouse loaf, delicious, I've had a mug of tea with it.  I've started drinking decaf coffee as caffeine apparently can affect inflammation too, not changed my teabags yet, but I only have one or two mugs a day and decaf Yorkshire tea is twice the price! I need to taste it before investing I thinks....

For dinner we're doing another TooGoodToGo order this time from Panku which is in the Asda apparently, Panku is street food flavours of East and Southeast Asia, so noodles, rice bowls, sushi, I'll let you know what it's like.  It's on Nutracheck too so happy days, I can track it.

Weather forecast looks okay so hopefully I won't get wet whilst walking but I'm not made of sugar I won't melt I guess :)

Have a great day, a wonderful weekend and take care of you - I plan too.

Thursday 16 May 2024

Oh ma'an the things you agree to!

Thursday 16th May 2024

Draw a line day for me today, I'm hoping stepping on those scales is going to be what I need to get me back on track!

I know, I know, I know, I say it often but do you know what, I love eating and drinking so cutting down on it is difficult and I have to keep starting over!  We've also been eating out the freezer to save a few pounds, then yesterday I had a Maccy's, yep a big mac and fries for £2.99, it was a coupon from a feedback form, did you know you can keep getting the coupons if you keep filling in the feedback form online, it only takes a few minutes to do.  At least it was my dinner I suppose.

Today will be better, it'll be tracked anyways, at least we did a gym session, not as long as I was in pain yesterday but I did 20-25 minutes which is better than nothing.  I need to start building up on the walking because I stupidly agreed to attempt Snowdon at the end of next month!  It's my brothers 60th and we're gonna push ourselves to see if we can still do it, to think we've done it 3 times in one day in the past using all 6 paths!  Oh the good old days when we were young and fit!

I need to get wriggle on or I'll be late for work, here's to trying again to get my healthy on!

Just know if you're struggling, you're allowed to press that reset button as many times as you wish, this isn't easy when you love life and you enjoy going out and having a good time!

We got this, slow and steady wins the race. xx

Damn those Haribos!

Wednesday 15th May 2024

Time to once again GET A GRIP!  I just love food and wine and having a good time - what can I say!  My eating has improved as the week has gone on but I still need to cut down on the calories, yesterday I had mackerel for breakfast and it was tasty, not sure I'd want it every week though.

Our dinner was pasta frittata which again was okay but I wouldn't really want it again.  At least I added plenty veggies to it.

I then spoilt my total by eating a bag of haribos, they weren't even the nicest ones - why do we do it?  I bought them for himself, opened them to have a couple, wasn't that impressed with them, but continued eating the bag.  It really is true that you can't eat what isn't there - I shouldn't have bought them.

Line drawn, fresh day, here's to making it a healthy one.

I couldn't complete my physio this morning, was in pain, it's all about balance and I've done a lot more walking this last week and we'll go to the gym later so it's all good.

I've got a dentist appointment later after huddle so a busy day ahead, I've just started with a big breakfast, I've had kippers, again they were tasty but a faff to watch for the bones and high in calories!  Two fillets 240g is 538 calories compared to 240g of beef steak which is only 324, you should only have one of the fillets I suppose but I've eaten both, with bread and an egg and ouch this plate of food set me back 1032 calories, I definitely won't eat until tea time.  That's cheese triangles not butter btw.

If I'm honestly one fillet and one slice of bread would have been more than enough with the egg.

I'm ready for my day, still trying to work out a way to stop the damn cat jumping up the door handle in the night, but at least I went back to sleep - nightmare cat!

Have a great day, I plan too.

Mwah, luv ya

Enjoyable day off...

Tuesday 14th May 2024

I had a lovely day yesterday, ignored the housework apart from the washing basket and went for a walk round the shops!  Treated myself to a couple of new bras and finally threw away the two that did absolutely nothing for me but hide my nipples!   You know the ones, crop top style, no underwire, no padding - NO SHAPE lol.  Peacocks £8 each I paid for these new ones and they're comfy too thankfully because let's be honest bras suck.

Anyway moving on, I did a small shop but I did treat myself to some mackerel, £2 and they've done me two meals, I made sure I bought British too, not just 'packed in Britain' but caught off our shores, I did the same with the apples, I'm making a conscious effort to look now after hearing that sometimes the label says British but that only means packed here, that's no good, we need to support our own produce.

I had one for lunch yesterday with a lazy salad, no chopping some of it, lovely wholemeal bread and a bit of boursin on one slice.  Delicious.  I've had the other one for breakfast with scrambled eggs and toast.  Really tasty.

The salmon and bass I'd defrosted we had for dinner last night in Chicken Tonight, honey and mustard sauce with rice and peas.  It looked like a dogs dinner but tasted great and it would make a lovely fish pie with mash on the top, just using cheap white fish.

I bought more of these too as they're on offer for £2 in Sainsbury's again instead of £4.75 and we loved this flavour.  You can't know that price at all!
We did 45 minutes at the gym too, I managed 9,094 steps on top of the 30 minutes on the bike, I'm loving being able to walk again, just walking round the shops is amazing, so I've been doing it, dangerous though because there's lots of lovely things to buy but I have to resist :)

Loving my books at the minute and I watched a bit of tele, nice to have stuff to catch up on as I have control of the remote!

I'm all ready for work, I did my physio, showered and ate breakfast before blogging for a change, so sorry if I was late this morning.

Have a great day, we're going to have the pasta frittata today, I've eaten plenty so I'll probably not eat again until I feed us both that later.

Monday 13 May 2024

Great weekend had...

Monday 13th May 2024

I've had a lovely weekend!  Friday I drove down to just outside Southampton to pick himself up so he could leave his car and drive the motorhome back down yesterday, so I decided to spend a few hours down there as I'd got to do the drive.  Walked round shops in Romsey, checked out the abbey and had Eggs Royale in a cafe with a latte, it was good to not be in a rush to be anywhere and not being able to think, I could be at home doing..... Yeah it was a lovely day, hell of a drive there and back in the same day so when we did get back, we had chippy tea, I'd only had that and the eggs though, so not dreadful.

Saturday after a lovely huddle on the morning, we fetched the motorhome from having it's solar panel fitted, we're all kitted up now to go 'off grid' as they call it!  The house hadn't had it's usual Friday tidy and I said about 2 ish, I better start cleaning and he replied leave it, let's get changed and go to the pub and meet your brother later.  I wasn't arguing with that!  I jokingly said to Aryn, if you tidy the house whilst I'm gone, I'll pay ya.

We had a lovely afternoon in the beer garden of the Summerhouse, Newhampton Road then we were treated to a meal with my brother and his wife at Rosso e Nero in Wolverhampton.  A delicious meal and a lovely night, I got quite drunk, too much white wine :)

When we got back, my house had been cleaned and tidied!  He'd done a great job, he'd even cleaned the rings on the cooker, saved me having to do anything on Sunday but 5 loads of washing.

Sunday because I hadn't got to do housework, we took Aryn to McArthurGlen to go clothes shopping, I walked round for over 2 hours, standing about whilst he tried things on and my back/legs handled it so well, it made my day.  When you haven't been able to walk and stand for a time, I can't explain how great it feels to be able to again.

I'd ordered some trousers from Cider online, I don't like doing online shopping because you can't try stuff on, but I wanted them, sadly they were too long so I had to get in touch, but they were fab and I've ordered the petit version so hopefully they'll fit.  Cider-Women's Fashion Clothing (shopcider.com) check them out, some good sale stuff.

And now it's Monday, the loony that is Minnie was jumping up my door from 3.45am, I need to work out how to stop that because I need sleep, I opened the door but then Coco come and walks all over me and stands by my head with the loudest purring!

I'm ready for the week, just took fish out the freezer to use up today, we've almost used up all the frozen stuff that's been in there a while now, Aryn's been eating the frozen spare meals that I've made when I've cooked, so I didn't have do a big shop last week, going to keep it to a minimum this week too.  I did buy 2 Coop freezer deals though, £6 for all this is awesome, stuff we'll eat too.  I love Alphabites, the lads love Magnums and mixed veg are our new go to veg so result.

Plan for today, write the huddle chat, do a bit of food shopping, go to the gym, cook something with the fish and enjoy doing a bit of my jigsaw.

Last night I watched the new Doctor Who's, enjoyed the first one, not so much the second one and thought there was a bit of overacting going on, but I can handle that.  I've got lots of tele to catch up on now he's away - YAY!  I miss him really :)

Here's to a great week, enjoy your day, it's been nice to have a bit of sunshine hasn't it.

Mwah, luv ya

More water!

 Thursday 9th May 2024

I've woke up with a headache this morning, I need to drink more water, especially now it's warmed up outside, yep, that's my challenge for the day ahead to drink plenty of water.

Last weeks challenge in our huddles was to aim to eat 20-30 different types of fruit and vegetables a week, that's not as easy as it sounds because we tend to eat the same things over and over.  There's a programme on Netflix about it, how it can help with the microbiome and bacteria in your stomach, go check it out, just type 'gut' in the search bar and it'll come up.

I've been rubbish this week at it, I did really well last week, this was my list;

Apple

Avocado

Baked beans

Banana

Black beans

Carrot

Celery

Corn on the cob

Cucumber

Green beans

Lettuce

Mushrooms

Onion

Peppers - yellow red and green

Potatoes

Salad leaves

Satsumas

Spinach

Sultanas

Swede

Sweetcorn

Tenderstem broccoli

Tomato

This week, I haven't had barely any, we went away and that limited what we had because we ate out, let's see

Baked beans

Banana

Beansprouts

Carrot

Cucumber

Green beans

Grey peas

Lemon

Lettuce

Mushrooms

Onion

Peas

Peppers - yellow red and green

Pineapple

Potatoes

Raisins

Salad leaves

Strawberry (in jam :) )

Spinach

Sweetcorn

Tomato

Much better than I thought because I don't feel like I've eaten well this week, I'm back on it from this morning, trackers out, I'm ready for the day.  I'm looking at a recipe for Pasta Frittata, I might make that for dinner, it'll use up some of the bits in the fridge that are gonna walk out if not used!  Pasta frittata recipe - BBC Food I'll work out the calories later and we'll probably share it two ways, we shall see.  Easy, cheap meal though, which is what I need this week.

Glass of water, 2 paracetamol and a mug of tea and my headache has gone thankfully!  Ready for the day now, I'm enjoying the chat this week in huddles, it's interesting to see how peoples brains work differently.

I need to get going, lots to do, not done physio again today, didn't do it yesterday either, my knee was in bits and my back sore, I'll let it calm down and get back to it tomorrow.  We did manage a 15 minute walk on treadmill whilst Aryn did his workout.  I will get there, slow and steady will win the race, I will walk this year, thinking about a knee brace to support it when we walk so it doesn't take so long to get over the walk.

Right, I'm off, ready for whatever today throws at me!  Let's do this...

Mwah, luv ya

Wednesday 8 May 2024

Sore and tired this morning, waking up now...

Wednesday 8th May 2024

I laughed at my alarm this morning, actually I didn't but I would've done if the cat hadn't woke me up before it, I then realised I was still tired, everything hurt and there was no way I was doing my physio this morning (I'll do it later) so I had myself an extra hour in bed and now I feel much better.  I woke a lot in the night, usually I spend an hour of the night awake last night it was 90 minutes and only 1 hour of deep sleep, so that extra hour was needed.

I really enjoyed yesterday though, the huddles were great, I loved the topic if I do say so myself and I'm looking forward to the rest of them this week to see how they go.

Food included using up stuff I have, so I found a cheese & onion potato pie, 431 calories in it though,
Then served it with Aldi sausage and beans, which I love when I'm in the mood.  260 calories in them.

Those potatoes would make a good side (only have 1/2) to fish served with veggies.

I had cobs for lunch, they were starting to turn, so I just pulled the blue bits off!  Tasted fine.

Using up food I've got in freezer, Aryn had leftover chilli with rice and wraps, that boy is unfillable!

We're going to have Tuna steaks today, they've been in there forever, so I'm going to marinade them I think, serve with couscous and veggies.

The rest of my day yesterday involved, a tiny bit of housework, a couple of hours with my jigsaw, I listened to the end of my book Shari Low, What Now?, the second of a 2 set, What if? the first, loved them, so easy to enjoy.  I also watched a bit of my crap progs as I had the remote back.

The cats weren't being helpful though!  I think they missed me :)

I'm gonna try and get my washing on the line before I leave this morning, hopefully it won't rain before I get back!

I'm in pain, the weekend has caught up with my knee and back my knee gave way when I was in the Aldi yesterday, thankfully I had the trolley to lean on, oh the joys :)

Now to go take those tuna steaks out the freezer and add some flavour to them, hopefully it'll work!

Have a great day x

Sunshine at last!

Tuesday 7th May 2024

I had a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend!  I didn't think it was going to work out that way on Friday, it rained constantly all night, every time I woke up, it was still raining, the owner had already said they'd tow us out the field if we got stuck!  Thankfully it stopped Saturday and we had a slow start to our day, drove over to Pistyll Rhaeadr to see the waterfall, wasn't sure if I'd be able to walk but I was good, we walked the path up to the top of it enjoying some time outdoors.  Only I could forget good footwear for a weekend in wales! I have no idea where my walking boots are, maybe I left them in Ireland, I don't know but my old working boots did the job and Sunday I wore sandals!

The food all weekend was excellent but the highlight for me was the warm scone I had from the cafe at the waterfalls, it was so good!

I didn't track a thing all weekend but my app is open again now.  Sunday we went to canoe over the Pontcysyllte aqueduct at Llangollen 307m long and 38m high, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is the tallest aqueduct in the world.  After we'd done that, we walked over it too, the views were stunning, thoroughly enjoyed it.  Outdoor activities | TNR Outdoors

A wonderful unrushed weekend, lots of sleep, eating and resting, the weather Sunday was glorious, sitting outside, enjoying some sunshine for a change!

Was the weekend perfect?  Hell NO, what chance is of that with a teenager in tow and two know it all adults!  We survived though and all round it was a very, good way to spend a weekend.   I don't think he'll want to do many weekends with us going forward so I made the most of this one, we're boring aren't we!  I only managed to get a couple of photos with him, which I'm not allowed to share but he's pulling a face that makes him look like a murderer anyways!

Looking forward to going back to work today, been up since 4.15 thanks to Minnie to door handle jumping loony cat, not looking forward to tackling the kitchen, there's not a clean plate in there but on a positive I did all the clothes washing when we got back yesterday.  I need to go shopping too, we don't have much even in the freezer.  At least I've only got to feed the two of us, Aldi it is!

Here's to getting back on track, mwah, luv ya

Friday 3 May 2024

Posh Pot Noodle!

Friday 3rd May 2024

I lost 1.5lb so being on track all week worked, now to keep it going.  I could've eaten my own arm yesterday I was hungry, but I keep it together, I did have a sausage and egg mcmuffin in-between huddles because I was hungry but I tracked it and at £2.79 for the muffin and a latte, bargain meal.  It was actually the best I'd ever had as I'm not really a huge fan of them, but it was freshly cooked and hot, I sat in the car park and enjoyed 10 minutes peace and quiet.

My day got healthier, as this was last nights dinner!  The main ingredients cost £4.82 from Aldi,  1kg Chicken Legs  £2.29, Noodles £0.95, Frozen mixed veg £0.99, Soy Sauce £0.59, I also added an onion (maybe wouldn't next time as Aryn doesn't like onion), 3 oxos in a mug of boiling water and a handful of spinach because I had it.  I skinned the chicken legs then cooked them in the slow cooker, when ready to eat, I removed the bones and shredded the chicken.  In a pan of boiling water I cooked the mixed veg and noodles together, then mixed it all together, adding so juice from the to the bowl as broth and we all added our own amount of soy sauce as I like mine quite strong.  I didn't use all the veg and there's some chicken left so with another strip of noodles, it'd easily feed four.

And it turned out really tasty, a posh pot noodle I guess, I'd also add mushrooms next time, it was a last minute meal decision, all I'd planned was the chicken bit, until I walked in the door at half six I hadn't decided what I was going to do with it.

I've got a busy morning so I better get on with it, all the mucky pots are in the kitchen, I also thinks it looks worse when the slow cooker is there because it's so big!

Here's to a good day, it's a bank holiday weekend and of course they've forecast rain!  Never mind, let's enjoy it regardless...

Mwah, luv u

Thursday 2 May 2024

You can eat really tasty food & lose weight!

Thursday 2nd May 2024

Needing my mug of tea this morning, I could've stayed in bed, I'll be ready for the day once it's drunk and I've showered to wake me up fully.  Here's hoping for a weight loss,

This is my Nutracheck app week, it's set up for me to lose 1lb a week I think, so I'm in credit whichever way you look at it and after not being great the last month or 6 weeks, I'm hopeful and I'm so glad to be feeling more in control.

I've also enjoyed my food this week, we had a concoction for lunch when I got home from work, using up the leftover mash from Sunday, fried it up with a bit of bacon and onion.  Also used up the leftover salsa from the burritos, it was delicious and indulgent.

Now dinner if I do say so myself was very good indeed, it was inspired by a delicious meal I had at Momma Sorrentis Facebook when Aryn and I visited.  I'd never had pork with pasta before so I thought I'd try it myself, now I'd bought pork chops in Aldi earlier in the week, if I was to make this again, I'd buy boneless ones or even try it with pork mince as the meal falls apart in the slow cooker and it's then a case of playing find the bones in your bowl eating game which isn't fun.  Other than that, the rest was delicious.  In a slow cooker put your pork, a jar of this which was really good for the price - 69p.

I also put in peppers, carrot and mushrooms, didn't add onion, not sure why not, maybe because I forgot or Aryn isn't a massive fan, it didn't need them anyway.  The mushrooms were big enough that I could ensure Aryn didn't get any.  Oh and I put a bit of chorizo in for some umph too.  It turned out really good, I just cooked it on low, left it on all day, put it on warm for the last few hours as they were messing outside with the bike.  When they were ready to eat, I did some spaghetti the cheap stuff as it all tastes the same I think and I made them cheesy garlic bread using the cheap on from Aldi and topped it with their cheese, I like that too.  That works out at about 75p for the whole thing and I split it between the two of them - I pinch one slice :) Lush!

This was the final outcome and we'll definitely be having it again.

Oh I love food, I really do, I love it even more when we all sit and eat together, we managed to do it up the table in the garden yesterday - bliss.

Anyway, I better get ready for my day, I'm all showered and on my second mug of tea already!  I've even put chicken legs, onion and stock in the slow cooker for using later, not 100% sure what I plan to do with them, but they'll be eaten :)

Here's to a great day, have a really good one,

Mwah, luv ya

Wednesday 1 May 2024

Time! We only get so much....

Wednesday 1st May 2024

Yesterday was a good day!  Diet wise it went well, I'm on course for a good week, but life was good yesterday too.  I was reminded that time is the most important thing we have, when I went back to the huddle on the evening I left them both messing with a motorcross bike that's been in the shed for a few years because there was nowhere for Aryn to ride it here unlike in Ireland.  When I returned two hours later, they were still at it and it made me really happy to see them doing something together, I hope they manage to get it running, he thinks it needs a battery or it's something else, but he'll sort it, it's not been ridden for over 3 years.  I've also found somewhere he can ride it once it's working, but first he'll need all new kit because he's now 2 foot taller than when he got it!

I'm so proud of him, he's doing really well at school too, he came down later to show me where he's marking in his imedia subject, on course for a distinction, to say how much school as been missed and moving countries, I think that's amazing!

Foodwise, I kept it simple, we had a leftover chicken bap for lunch,

Then I made a pie with the leftover beef and I chuckled whilst making it on the afternoon, last week when I made the lamb pie I used a block of Jus-Rol shortcrust pastry and rolled it out myself, this time I used ready rolled from Aldi and it was crap, as I rolled it out it cracked, when I picked it up to use it, it was stretching and coming apart, well it just gave me the giggles, I couldn't stop, I couldn't find a dish the right side so ended up using this massive, deep dish so the pastry didn't come high enough up the side, but the bits that fell off I used to make it up (I'm laughing again now) I felt like I was playing with playdo and making something a kid would make the smile of the pie was a bit of the pastry that just come away in my hands as it stretched.  It didn't cook great either, but it tasted alright.

We ate it anyway, but it cost me a lot of calories because I used two packets and we had a quarter each!  I wouldn't do it again!

My week so far,

I've gotta lose a pound tomorrow ain't I looking at them numbers?!  We shall see.

I feel good for being back in control anyways, that's the most important thing.

Today I'm thinking pork and spaghetti in a tomato style sauce, I remember having similar at Facebook Momma Sorrentis and it was delicious, I might stick it in the slow cooker actually, mmm good idea.

Anyway, physio done, I'm ready for the day, let's start May with passion and make it aMAYzing :)

Mwah, luv ya
