Tuesday 24 August 2021

It's a beautiful day (Buble's on the radio, what can I say!)

Tuesday 24th August 2021
Start by starting, it doesn't have to be easy.

The alarm woke me at half five this morning and my knee made me take the staircase one at a time with both feet on each step so I did consider not doing my workout until later but instead I decided to pick an easier one and pause or stop if needed, I was okay and managed the half hour.  Here's to one I did yesterday,

And the one I did this morning was the first one I did of Body Project and my knee was okay, it hurts a little and clicks a lot but it does that anyways!

Yesterday was a lovely day off, Alfie sat on my lap to stop me doing any housework - he's a good dog, but then when he got off we drove to Weston Park for a lovely walk down to the lake through the grass, so I ended up with wet feet, need to remember to put my boots on when I go walking.  It's glorious there, over 1,000 acres to explore.  It certainly helped me add to my sunshine list.

What's a Sunshine list? For those who don't already know, it's a list of anything and everything that makes your heart sing a little or a lot, puts a smile on your face, makes you glad to be alive, or just helps you get through the day. Get yourself a little notepad and pop it in your bag and add to the list every time you think of something else or like me use your notes app on your phone.  I haven't added to mine in a long time, so yesterday whilst I was sat on a rock letting Alfie catch his breathe, I jotted a few things down;

I mean look at that toadstool, it was nearly as big as my head - what's not to smile about there!

Just sitting here now, things I could add to my list include hearing 'shine' by Take That on the radio, it always reminds me of how for a whole week I got my members to sing it in my meetings, the lyrics to that song are words to take note off,

Stop (stop)
Being so hard on yourself
It's not good for your health
I know that you can change
So clear your head and come 'round
You only have to open your eyes
You might just get a big surprise
And it may feel good
And you might want to smile, smile, smile

Don't you let your demons pull you down
'Cause you can have it all
You can have it all

Then there's Alfie, he's been my doggy pal for over 11 years, he follows me everywhere which is lovely and frustrating all at once.  Everything in my living room makes me smile thanks to my brothers transformation and my choice of decor, I love my yoga lady ornament, she looks like me with her wobbly belly and real body, my buddha scentsy warmer that's not plugged in, I just like it's face, then there's my cyberman head hiding on the shelf reminding me that being void of emotion is never a good thing, it's so much better to feel even when it's painful.  My curtains with images of ferns on, they make me want an indoor and some outdoor fern plants in the garden because I love ferns and they remind me of walking with my brother Ian in ferns so high he couldn't see where I was to follow!  I have orchids now too, mom could always keep her orchids for years, I was never so good, my concrete man, he's my oldest ornament and I love him.  See just focusing on the things that make you smile helps your brain start to focus on the positives rather than the negatives.  The bad stuff will still be there but why give it more space in your brain than you need to, that's my thinking anyway.

Food yesterday started okay,

 This was delicious

This wasn't as good as I'd hoped

I then got a raging urge for something sweet land from nowhere, that rarely happens and the only thing in the house I had was 1/2 apple flapjack crumble in the freezer from last month when I went shopping and bought a meal deal.  It wasn't all that which is why they other half was frozen easily.  Anyway, the packaging said defrost for 8 hours and don't cook in the microwave - MEH!  I defrosted it in the microwave for 3 minutes and cooked it in the oven, it was okay covered in Elmlea Plant Double Vegan Alternative to Cream which I'd been given as a free sample, I have to say it's not a bad alternative and did the job.  Not bad on calories in comparison either, 288 per 100ml as opposed to 439 for regular cream.  To stop me drinking the rest, I poured it into a dish and let Alfie have a bit so I had to throw the rest away.   I knew if I didn't do that, I was going to make creamy coffees!  It did the job, sweet cravings gone, I settled down on the settee to watch more of 'This is Us', I'm watching it, enjoying some of it, but it's bloody depressing in parts, they're all crazy, messed up people, I'm on the second season and I just want to know how he dies!

Anyway, good news, I had a call from the Express and Star last night, their photographer is coming Thursday morning to take our photo so hopefully we'll make the paper, it's never 100%, so until we see it in there we won't get over excited!  We're also organising afternoon tea on a canal boat for our members, we said we wanted to create a community where we could get together outside of groups and do things we all enjoy, this is hopefully the first of many events.

Looking forward to Tuesday first, can't believe it's bank holiday weekend coming up, if you're looking for something to do, Weston Park has a Summer Fiesta | Weston Park (weston-park.com) that looks good for families, you can even take dogs on leads.

Here's to making it through the day, the scales will say what they say, wins for me this week are, I've exercised every day for a minimum of 30 minutes, I haven't had a glass of wine since Friday which explains the sweet tooth, I'm averaging 8 hours 22 minutes sleep over the last 5 weeks and all these things are helping me achieve a healthier lifestyle.  It's not just about the scales, remember that - eating well is extremely important but don't undereat as that just encourages that starve / binge / overeat behaviour that is no good for anyone.  Don't cut out all the good stuff, plan it in, create a calorie deficit and enjoy the journey.

Now, what shall I eat today?  Decisions, decisions....

I'll let you know tomorrow what I chose, have a great day

Mwah, luv ya

Love me x
