I'm gonna miss May!

Friday 31st May 2019
Find joy in the journey!

Well #MyMay has been so good for me, I'm actually going to miss it, so I have to make June equally as good, I plan to continue to find the joy in the journey, mmm #JoyfulJune maybe, nah I'll stick with #MeFirst for the rest of the year and realise it's a constant thing, not just a one month thing.

This month is going to be all about adding activity into my life and making it a habit, I woke up early this morning after a disturbed night, mom was on the landing shouting at some point in the middle of it, obviously she'd been dreaming, Alfie's been poorly too, hoping he's okay this morning or it's a trip to the vets.  He's sat under my chair dogging me to go for a walk so I think he's okay again.

Anyway I woke up early and went down to do my second workout with Lorraine's on demand videos, I'm starting with the 15 minute low impact one for poorly knees, because I know what I'm like, I go at everything gung ho, like a bull at a gate and I'll damage myself, so I'm making myself take it slowly, I've done my plank too, 35 seconds today, check me out!  Don't forget if you want to do the online thing with me, sign up to the special WW offer £5 a month https://www.ltfitness.net . Anyway, I did that, which I like, one because I can do it, two because she's human, there's nothing worse than watching some size 8, 6ft blonde prancing around on a screen telling you, you too could have a body like hers if you do what she does - NAH you can't!  So I'll take a regular woman who's doing the best she can with her own body telling me how I can do the best with mine, not patronising me, like she says on the video, do it at your own pace, there's no hero's or egos - I like that.

Anyway, the best bit came after I'd finished, I walked in the kitchen to be greeted by two foxes playing in the garden, check this cutey out!  I filmed them for a minute or two, then went upstairs to get my camera and tell mom and watched them a little longer.  If you want to see the shots I got go to my fb page https://www.facebook.com/bevww there's two lots, one from my phone, one from camera.

So that's my day made before I even start!

Yesterday was great, loving my workshops this week, the interaction from everyone is amazing. Food wise looked like this;

Breakfast & a snack on the go because apparently you can burn hard boiled eggs ðŸ™„ the foxes appreciated them last night, well they'd gone this morning.  I do love those chicken fillets, wished they were cheaper, they're a bargain for 1SP each.  Those protein bars do fill a gap too, and chocolate flavoured - well winner, winner!

Chicken breast honey sausage (1SP), egg & mushrooms on flatbread (3SP) with iceberg lettuce chunks drizzled with WW Caesar salad dressing (1SP) delicious lunch.  I'm loving the crunch of lettuce at the minute, I've gone through 2 in the past week lol.

I was surprised when I found this in Sainsbury’s for 12SP, the spuds were so crunchy & delicious the beef truly tender, the gravy is very rich, worth a try to see if it’s for you!

As it was Thursday night there was wine involved, I had a bag of crisps, a couple of broghies and a light cheese square - it's all good though, it was all controlled and remember it's not about perfection, I've got the rest of my life to get and stay healthy.  I don't know why but for some reason, the text won't got left aligned so it's all centred, I'm not doing it deliberately.

I've got to go, little Alfie is looking at me and if he could talk he'd say, 'you love them damn foxes more than me!' which isn't true so I'm gonna go take him out bless him xx

Have a Marvellous last day of May! I'm going too ;)

Well this WW really does work!

Thursday 30th May 2019
two things you are in total control of in life are your attitude and your effort.

Well what can I say - I never expected that....

Another 2lb off which means I've lost 7.5lb in May, WOW what a difference prioritising my own needs has made, things like stopping doing everything to actually cook myself a proper, healthy, low SmartPointed meal, taking Alfie for another walk, even if he only does a short one.  Going to the supermarket to look for bargains and most importantly taking the time for my workshop with Elle each week.  Yeah I'm thrilled as 7lb was my goal by summer, but I expected it to be mid summer not before it even starts, so yeah I'm chuffed, plus I'm not obsessing about the numbers which is a lot less stressful.  I'm more about the journey this time, the way I feel and I gotta tell ya, I feel great.

I'm not even bothered that I'm having the most incredible menopausal night sweats, they will not bring my mood and enthusiasm for taking care of myself down.

I made the WW porridge mini muffins again yesterday, they are so good, I took them for my helpers to try and they agreed they are good, especially as you get 2 for 1 SmartPoint, I bought my tray from amazon muffin tray, I put 2 raspberries in each muffin, mixed 2 packets of porridge, 2 bananas, 2 eggs together and baked for about 25 minutes, until they looked cooked - so good warm out the oven, be careful the berries don't burn ya though.

My lunch was epic, left over St Agur chicken 3SP, with bacon medallions (1SP) and salad, with the new Caesar salad dressing which is delicious, will be enjoying that again.

My tea was one of Harj's curry and rice treats, so no cooking for me there.  I'll put the recipe at the bottom of the blog.

So I have managed to bag my WW community a bargain, I mentioned yesterday I've signed up for on demand workouts because I don't really fancy the idea of classes and with mom getting out is difficult, plus I'm so damn unfit I don't think for a minute I'd manage an hour and if I did, I wouldn't be able to move much the next day, but I did manage a 15 minute workout for people with bad knees yesterday and you know what, I can feel where it's worked so it is doing something, I will do it again tomorrow and Sunday, maybe Monday too, if I can do it 3-4 times a week, then build up I think it's all going to help, I'm also going to do a plank every day.  June is going to be about making activity a habit.

Anyway after talking to Lorraine the lady who does the local classes and on demand stuff, she's set up a special WW offer, https://www.ltfitness.net/plans-pricing £5 a month for unlimited online workouts, that's the price of one class if you were going to leave your house to go to one, so I think that's a bargain for sure and if the others are like the one I did yesterday, I'd say they're worth it.  She's even going to look at doing a few more directed to older people or people with health problems who will struggle to do anything.   Just having a quick scroll through, there's wake up & workout stuff, pump and tone, yoga, resistance bands (which I fancy next), abs, kettle bells, dance, low intensity interval training, full body, retro step, spin, oh it goes on but. you get my gist, yeah defo a bargain if you need to start moving more and build up your strength which is what I've realised I need.

Anyway, I need to get gone, I have work to do, a mom to sort, a dog to walk, and so it goes on.  Here's to making Thursday tremendous, remember I'm not being perfect and I'm losing so you don't have to be perfect either, enjoy the process. x

What a plank!

Wednesday 29th May 2019
The past is your lesson.  The present is your gift.  The future is your motivation.

#MyMay is almost over, 3 more days and I'm feeling so good in myself, even yesterday when mom was horrid all afternoon, I stayed calm and out of the kitchen, actually I didn't stay out of the kitchen I went in there to hide and wash up, I then cooked myself some low pointed delicious food, then I went to work again and she was back to being my lovely mom when I got home thankfully, so I made it through another day.

This was how it looked, lots of plates of deliciousness!

Sainsbury's Flatbread (3SP) & 2 bacon medallions (5SP) with mushrooms and lettuce - so good.

Chicken wrapped in ham with St Agur cheese (4SP) in the middle, mash (3SP) and veg

Don't you get a lot of ham for 1SP

Can of tuna with 2SP worth of low fat mayo and chives, salad and 2 extra light triangles (2SP)
Alfie ate the third one.

This was my sweet treat, so good 0% Greek yogurt with raspberries topped with a chopped up protein raspberry crunch bar for 2SP - so good!

Mom asked for a ham sarnie around 9ish which is unheard of and I admit to having a slice of bread with a bit of ham on myself, but that's only 2SP. And of course there was wine, we were watching BGT so I was up later than I usually am.

It's weigh in this morning, I'll take a stayed the same, I've been thirsty this week  ðŸ˜‰ I'd add and it was a Bank Holiday but in my house it was just a usual Monday, I don't work them anyway.

Anyway, #MeFirst has begun and after posting this link in my group the other day, Can you do this? it made me realise, I'm a long way from the healthy, fit, supple and strong person I once was and thanks to this weeks topic in my workshops, it's making me think about it and address it.  I've signed up for Lorraine's online workouts to get me started because I need to start slow and steady and she had all kinds of videos for all kinds of levels, I fancy the resistance training but first there's a 15 minute one for bad knees (perfect for me!).  I'm not going to lie when I first started looking into this strength training all my brain was saying was 'oh what use would lifting a couple of cans of beans do!' but I know anything helps really, hell I used to go to the gym 6 times a week and have personal training sessions, I've forgotten everything I learnt but I do remember, every little bit helps.

This morning I've started with my first plank, after hearing Louise tell us in the workshop last night, that her husband had spine problems and the specialist told him he'd need surgery unless he did a plank for 30 seconds every day and 3 months later he doesn't need it and his disks have sorted themselves out - worth a try for sure, I mean everyone has 30 seconds, I was impressed I managed the 30 seconds to be honest.  So that's going on my to do list every morning, if I can build up and do it for longer great but if I can't 30 seconds will be good enough.

I've also signed up to https://www.ltfitness.net I can't and don't want to go to classes, plus to be honest I don't think I could do them quite yet, I'd knacker my back up completely, I want to build up really slowly, I want to strengthen my joints by building the muscles around them and I think I can do that at my own pace with Lorraine online workouts, she's going to sort out a fantastic discount for my members too (I paid full price lol, no favouritism here can I add!  Just in case you thought I was getting something for nothing, I didn't), so again make sure you're in my workshops this week to hear more.  The reason I chose to sign up to this was because I've heard nothing but good stuff about her workshops, I've honestly, hand on heart never heard anyone say 'no I didn't like her classes' it's usually, "oh she's brilliant', I had that response a few times yesterday when I mentioned her classes.  So even if you're not local, you can make use of her via the online workouts, I've only briefly looked but there's so much choice from yoga to spin and all the usual aerobics type stuff and strength training, anyway, I'm waffling about her, go look at her website or go to one of her classes and decide about her yourself, that's my plan because let's be honest, I've only paid the subscription so far, I can't confirm she's worked for me yet as I've not even done a workout yet, I did watch one as I walked Alfie - it's a start!  https://www.ltfitness.net

Weigh day and no meals planned, I need to get thinking, I don't do 'treat day' because I do 'treat wine' continually!  I can't do both.  I have another of those stuffed chicken breasts I could have, I'm loving those flatbreads and there are 5 in a pack which don't keep so I'll have one of those probably, that could be one meal, ooo I could have chicken and bacon salad with flat bread, now you're talking.  I might make some breakfast muffins with the last two packets of WW oats I have and hope more will be delivered today.  I might make some of those egg savoury muffins too.  I like this #MeFirst version of me and I massively thank #MyMay for getting me back to the person I used to be before Alzheimers crept its way into our world and spread it's disease far and wide.

Here's to a very, very, great day, now if Alfie stays on moms bed a little longer, I'm going to go do the first 15 minutes workout in the living room, or maybe the kitchen has more space, we are untidy buggers after all!

Catch ya tomorrow.

Food finds for ya

Tuesday 28th May 2019
Old ways won't open new doors.

Wonderful, glorious sleep, I've just enjoyed two minutes shy of 8 hours and according to my Fitbit only 13 minutes restless which I am thankful for and as I sat down to write my blog, a big fox walked down the street at 5am, he's obviously going home for his sleep.

#MyMay is almost over and it's really served me well, I'm really more aware of myself, my behaviour and my needs.  My eating is much more improved and I'm taking advantage of going for a walk whenever I can, yesterday that involved walking round the supermarket.  In the past I would've ordered online so as not to leave mom again but instead I made sure she was in a good mood and settled then nipped out.  Glad I did as I got me a couple of clothes bargains and good to check points on things that I might have missed online, I had my marker pen in my pocket and marked the things up I bought as they went in my trolley, that saves me having to do it again.

This was one of the bargains I found, a Taste the difference Beef Hash for 12SP, that's going to be my Thursday night tea I think after my long day.  Don't know why the photo is the wrong way round but you can twist your neck, consider it exercise!

I picked one of these up too which I haven't had in years, another head turner, it's 6SP in half, 11SP for the whole thing.  Long life cupboard food, perfect for emergencies.

For my dinner last night I wasn't really hungry but I really fancied one of these fillets I'd bought (6SP each) so I had that on a flatbread (3SP).

I usually have the seeded ones but these were pitta like and delicious for 3SP, I also added 2SP of tartare sauce after I took the photo, had to be done.

These are delicious for 1SP each if not a little on the expensive side, but they were on offer.  They're pointed because they are processed and they are only 87% chicken, they have oil and other ingredients in them,  Worth the point though.

And my last addition to my basket was these bacon medallions 2 for 1SP, they're be lush for breakfast on a plain flatbread, nom nom, check me out planning meals ;)

The rest of my day was the usual, dog walks, crochet and tv with mom, I was pleased to find new episodes of New Amsterdam on Amazon prime though I have to admit, it's a real good medical drama if you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it.

That's me off, I need to shower and sort my stuff for work, here's to a truly, tremendous Tuesday, oh one last thing, we're talking strength in workshops this week and a friend shared this video with me, can you do it?  It took me a few attempts but I managed it once, Can you do this! made me realise how my fitness levels have declined over the last few years, I used to be really supple and strong, mmm need to work on that!

#MeFirst #MyMay

Monday 27th May 2019
You don't have to be extreme, just consistent.

Well I've been awake since 3.19am, thanks to Alfie and the foxes, I calmed Alfie down but I sat watching them in the street, 6 of them running round, then chilling out and lying on next doors drive. Later they were running around on the green over the road by the shops.  I then went to see what was happening round the back as I saw a couple go down the alley and I saw 2 adult and 1 cub go up the corner where the hole is, I have seen 2 cubs in my garden though.  I then watched them come back out again and I laughed as the one cub showed me my suspicions were correct, he's getting out by lifting two slats of the fence panel behind the tree, at least I should be glad he's lifting them and hasn't just smashed through them I guess!

We had a lovely walk yesterday morning, although we did get rather wet.  I love that we're finding paths so close to home, this one started at Northycote farm, which you can enjoy walking round easily for an hour, we then followed the Monarch's Way path which took us from Northycote farm to the Cannock Road which you cross and then walk with lovely fields either side and come out at Bognop Road.  We turned round and retraced our path but you could make it a bigger circular walk but you would have to include some road walking.   It all added to my steps though, which were, 15,531 by the end of the day and 132 active minutes, which earned me 25 Fit Points and set me up for the day for sure.  I'd happily start every day like that if I could.

The sausages I defrosted turned out to be pork, so I didn't eat them, wasn't wasting points on them.  instead I had the leftover turkey mince from the day before on a sandwich for 3SP, it was delicious too.

Dinner was this, the slow cooked beef brisket in stout gravy was 7SP and not bad at all if you fancy something other than chicken for a change.  I've done enough mash and veg for today and cooked a chicken breast to have with it, so that's today sorted.

for a snack later I had these WW cheese crackers, 2 SP in the packet and lovely with cheese triangles on them, nom nom.

Of course there was red wine involved and I've finished my week in minus, but again I've earned 91, it's all good.  I'm not obsessing over it, I want to live a happy, healthy lifestyle and if I lose the odd pound or two along the way, brilliant.  I know it's impossible to be golden all the time and beating yourself up over it won't make the situation better, nope.

In an ideal world I'd drink a lot less wine, but my mom wouldn't have Alzheimers either, I wouldn't be having night sweats, nor would my joints hurt when I get out of bed.  But this ain't a perfect world and honestly my real goal is that I have the energy to handle the things that happen and to do it with a smile on my face and love in my heart.

If I could offer advice to anyone reading this, it would be to give yourself as much love as you give to others, to not expect so much of yourself and to not obsess over your eating habits because that's just as bad as constantly overeating.  It's all about balance xx

Whatever you've got planned for this Bank Holiday Monday, enjoy it, if you're working, I hope your day goes quickly.  I'm thinking I might sneak out for a walk but we'll see, I have work to do before I do anything else oh and a huge pile of washing up!

It's the last week of #MyMay, I think next month I'm going with #MeFirst, it was suggested by Tina and straight away I liked it but saying it or even thinking it made me feel a little uncomfortable.  Then I realised that's why it needs to be the hashtag going forward because I do need to put myself first, it isn't selfish, it's selfcare, it's essential because if I don't take care of me, I'll not have the energy to do anything.  Then I won't be able to care for my mom or to support my members, yeah #MeFirst is the new hashtag.

Happy Sunday folks

Sunday 26th May 2019
Find yourself and be that.
An early night was had last night, we went up at 8, I've been the lucky receiver of hot flushes throughout the night and that's meant I've had a disturbed sleep but thankfully I've had enough sleep to not be shattered this morning because when I'm tired, I tend to eat badly.

I'm off walking with my brother in a bit so this is a quick one, we've got to stay local as he's on call, but outs, out wherever we walk.

So yesterday I had the best idea if I do say so myself, I love a runny egg but didn't want to waste points on bread to put it on so I decided I'd better have an omelette instead, but then I thought I’d try combining them and it worked!

I cracked the egg in the middle of the pan then poured the omelette mix around it, those little lumps are 2 extra light cheese triangles for 1SP and that right there was perfection on a plate.

slide out of pan and roll up, then add a bit of salt and pepper,

and enjoy!  So good.

It was also very filling and kept me going until late afternoon when I made this simple dish.

Soooo good, fast food at its finest, throw a packet of Sainsbury's 2% turkey breast mince in a frying pan, add a small can of water chestnuts, I cut them in half, dice a couple of mushrooms, a couple of spring onion & when the mince is starting to brown (or look cooked at least) add a tablespoon of hoisin sauce 2SP, you could use teriyaki sauce or oyster instead for the same Smart Points, I also added a splash of soy sauce as I like quite strong flavours, delicious wrapped in the lettuce leaves and again really filling as they're high in protein.

For my tea I ate the last of those cobs, they're gone now so I won't buy any for a bit, they're difficult to resist, bread does that to me which is why I buy the 400g wholemeal warburtons as I can resist that easier.

Nothing planned on the menu today, so I need to get organised, I might have a beef dinner I think, I have a ready cooked thing in the fridge, make a simple dinner with a few veggies and a bit of mash, yeah perfect.  Breakfast will be after my walk, so I'll have quite the appetite, could do a cooked breakfast, eggs, tomatoes, think I have a couple of chicken sausages in the freezer, I'll take them out in a minute.

Right, here's to earning some fit points, trying to put back the points before my week resets tomorrow morning.  I didn't get to do a walk on my own yesterday, mom was in the mood to sit outside so I made the most of her good mood, Alfie took me on a good long walk later though, it may not have been fast but we were out nearly an hour and only 10 mins of that was spent sitting on the grass ;)

Let's hope the rain stays away so people can enjoy the bank holiday weekend.  Enjoy your day, I plan too x

Enjoying the journey

Saturday 25th May 2019
Keep going because you did not come this far, to only come this far.

Woo hoo it's payday!  Ooo FOOD shopping can be done again ;) healthy food of course as I'm still doing #MyMay, I plan to do continue taking care of me throughout June too, not sure what the hashtag will be but I'll think of something #takingcareofme #Imattertoo something along those lines.

I'm not going to be perfect every day and that's okay, I don't want to go through the rest of my life without the odd indulgence that'll take me over my allowance, I love food and wine and last night I wanted to use cheese and onion cobs because we were talking about them last Thursday and I had these rolls that I'd bought for my fish finger sarnie the day before, so I had 2 delicious cheese and onion cobs, the cobs aren't bad at 4SP each (9 for 2 though - boo), 55 grams of Cathedral city higher was 6sp, I use a potato peeler to slice it thinly and the spread was only a point, low fat stuff, then the lovely Spanish onion which I'd sliced the day before so they were just how I liked them, mild and edible. nom nom,

I'm on minus 45 with the weekend ahead of me, but hey, I did walk to my massage yesterday, almost 3 mile round trip.  I earned 18 FitPoints, taking me to a total of 57, my hope is to keep my FitPoints higher than my minus!  I'll try and sneak a decent walk later without Alfie, he's just not a fan of proper walking, although he didn't do badly yesterday.

This was my brunch yesterday, cost me 7SP but it was lush, olive bread with cheese triangle, nom nom.

On the recommendation of Angie, I had this fish pie for my dinner, it was good for 9SP, when scanned it came up as 10 but if you type it in, it's only 9, WW have took account of the fish in it and saved you a point - bonus or I'd have been on minus 46 ;)

I've got a busy morning to look forward to I hope with my members at our 9am workshop, I'm going to start my day with a zero breakfast,   I'm just sat watching a sparrow on the wire coming to my roof, he's a cheeky, handsome, little chap, about to enjoy his breakfast, note to self - top the seed up.  I'll go and enjoy my breakfast next too, going to make it a zero one, need to save points for wine later, so I'm thinking eggs, I'm also enjoying 0% Greek yogurt, I eat it straight from the tub, maybe a banana, yeah that'll keep me going.   I like runny eggs but need something to have instead of bread with them.   What could I dunk in a Chucky egg?  There's always asparagus but any other suggestions of anything that's not going to cost me points when I'm trying to do the zero thing?  Mmm roasted butternut squash chips maybe, that might work, I like roasted carrots too, could cut them in sticks.

I think the thing I'll do for me today is a walk, I listen to my audio books whilst doing that, yesterday I finished listening to The Secret Garden, I loved it, I didn't read it as a child but it was such a wonderful story and I really loved how it was written, it's very old fashioned and the Yorkshire aspect of it reminded me of my grandparents as mom was a Yorkshire lass.  My next read is Kevin Harts book, I've only listened to the intro and it's already made me laugh so I'm hoping there will be many more giggles throughout.

Here's to a very, great day, hope the rain stays away, it's not looking too bad out there.  Enjoy your weekend, whatever you have planned, I will, I'm going to get my cook on later I reckon.

I do love a Fish Finger sarnie!

Friday 24th May
Progress is impossible without change.

Had me a lie in this morning because I sat in the kitchen watching the fox cubs destroy my garden last night, they're playing and thankfully there's only so much damage they can do.

My day was a good one, workshops were fab yesterday, lots of new faces and of course my BeYOUtiful regular ones, my Michelle got her 50lb and that smile was as wide as mine when I got my loss this week.

My food journal doesn't look too shabby either, breakfast was a delicious cheese and onion omelette, using 2SP of parmesan cheese, lush,
I cooked the onions before hand whilst I was cooking my chicken sausages (3SP) which I snacked on throughout the morning to keep me from munching on the wrong things.
by the time it came to lunchtime, I wasn't hungry so ended up having fruit and yogurt, then about half 6 at work on the night my belly started rumbling so I had a WW protein bar and apparently they do work, my belly stopped rumbling and I was okay until I made my tea when I got home which was the most delicious posh fish finger bap (Instructions at the bottom of the page).

Staying up late meant I drank an extra glass of wine, then I found the last packet of walkers cheese and onion crisps so that was 4SP I hadn't planned on having.  I'm still tracking though and on it, ready to survive the Bank Holiday weekend, I'm going to do some more cooking, I find I enjoy it and stay on track more if I make food I really enjoy, but uncomplicated, delicious food is key.

Well Alfie's giving me the daggers, he's begging for his walk so I'm going to go hopefully earn me some FitPoints, yeah he's jumping up me now so catch ya tomorrow, have a very, great day, the suns still shining which is always a bonus.

Posh fish finger bap 6SP

Put breadcrumbs in a bowl, I weight them before and after so I know exactly how much I've used to point, used 1SP of breadcrumbs on each piece of salmon.
1 egg whisked in a second bowl.
You can use any fish to make this, I just happen to have lots of frozen whoopsie salmon in my freezer.

Put on baking tray and cook for 25 mins on 180 degrees/ gas mark 6

These are delicious and they are large like it states on the packet, had them from Sainsbury's

These are the same points as Dairylea light but I prefer the Dairylea ones for 30p extra but to be honest neither are a patch the full fat ones I had for Lidl's for 2SP, must look to see if they do a light version and taste if its any better, sometimes it's worth the extra point!
Pop cooked salmon on the bap and enjoy with salad or maybe some butternut squash fries.
I added roast courgette for zero and olives for 1sp.

So tasty and well worth cooking
