What if?

6th April 2013
Call a cease-fire on the war against your body and your imperfections – go give yourself some love!
So I’ve just read that walking is just as good for you as running and it cuts your risk of heart strain and damage from high impact exercise such as sore knees.  Not if you’re being chased by a mountain lion it isn’t!  You’ve gotta love all these experts, everyday giving us another new bit of advice or changing previous beliefs!
Just think what if you woke up tomorrow to find that the experts had been wrong all along, it wasn’t WHAT you ate that gave you a weight problem, nor was it HOW MUCH you ate either.  No they’d now ‘proven’ it was actually HOW YOU ATE that mattered.  How would you feel about that?
Just think about that idea for a moment because you’ve just read the paragraph above and not even taken it in, probably because half of what I say is pointless but partly because we don’t really pay attention to most things, I know my bestie only reads three of every four lines I type when we’re chatting! (Yeah you do Lynne!)  So back to that idea, I’m going to repeat it;
Just think what if you woke up tomorrow to find that the experts had been wrong all along, it wasn’t WHAT you ate that gave you a weight problem, nor was it HOW MUCH you ate either.  No they’d now ‘proven’ it was actually HOW YOU ATE that mattered.  How would you feel about that?
Yeah what if the speed with which you ate, the attention you paid, the time of day, what you were thinking/feeling as you ate, how relaxed/stress you were as you ate, your mood, how you felt towards the food you were about to eat, how much you enjoyed eating it.
If HOW YOU ATE was scientifically proven to be the cause of people’s weight problems would that make more sense to you?  Would it explain why you’re not losing weight?  Have you often thought I don’t eat as much as they do and yet I’m twice the size of them!
If you found this to be true or just decided to indulge me, what might you do different?
Would you consider slowing down and paying attention to the food you eat?
Would you eat different foods because the ones you’re choosing at the moment wouldn’t be your first choice if you weren’t trying to lose weight?
Would you stop beating yourself up every time you ate something that was absolutely delicious and/or covered in chocolate?
Would you be happier when you ate, would you enjoy it more?
Would you shop differently?  If yes – how?

What if Metabolism was more than just the sum total of all the chemical reactions in the body (that’s the undisputed classic textbook definition of metabolism by the way!) What if Metabolism is the sum total of all the chemical reactions in the body, plus the sum total of all our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and experiences?
What if this definition was more biochemically accurate and complete, how would you feel about that?
I’m no expert so I’m using ‘what if’ in my blog but I have read of studies that acknowledge / prove these theories, so maybe when you go shopping this week or when you decide what to have for your lunch, or when you sit down to eat a meal you’ll do it bearing this new ‘what if’ information in mind.
There’s more to weight loss than the food you eat!
Always BeYouTiful and have a good day. xx
